Life after Whole30. I’ve been maintaining a Whole30 lifestyle, but experimenting in the forbidden swypo foods that the program discourages due to bad habits vs. non-compliant ingredients. I wanted to try a take on no bake protein balls and took to the fridge/cabinets to create these little blobs. They may not look like much, but they taste fantastic and come with zero guilt (but don’t eat too many at once, almonds are a high calorie food and these are rich). If I were to try again, I might cool the mixture and then shape into balls or hearts or something to make them more photo-friendly.
These are totally adjustable based on what you have in the fridge or what sounds like a tasty combo, but the below outlines what I did.
What you’ll need:
- 1 ripe banana
- 3 dates, pitted and chopped
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp coconut flakes
- dash of cinnamon
- dash of salt
- dash of cayenne pepper (was going for a mexican chocolate with a kick)
- 2 big spoonfuls of crunchy almond butter
- Combine all ingredients in a blender
- Spoon mixture into dollops on parchment paper
- Freeze overnight
PS – I’m posting this on Valentine’s Day because I’m submitting this as a part of the monthly link up party Our Growing Edge and this month’s theme is aphrodisiacs. Did you know bananas are an aphrodisiac? Me neither, but the Google told me. They contain bromelain, an enzyme which supposedly triggers testosterone, and potassium and vitamin B, which increase energy. Our Growing Edge and the monthly link up aims to connect food bloggers and inspire us to try new things. This month is hosted by Amanda from My Everyday Homemade.
